I love history!

The burial site of Francis Marion. Well maintained. A must stop for history buffs.

Belle Isle Plantation consists solely of one long road that leads to the tomb of Brigadier General Francis Marion, a Revolutionary War Patriot. Belle Isle Plantation was the home of his brother. There was once a huge house on the grounds which had a tunnel that Marion used to escape from the British General Bannister Tarleton. Marion was known as the father of guerrilla warfare based on tactics he learned from the Native Americans. His wife is buried in a separate tomb next to him. There are several family members buried in the surrounding plot, with babies buried under the small markers.
